Icelandic Spar- lidded jar with ancient-inspired carvings and weathered glaze.

Crystals were held in high regard and used during the Viking age for various purposes. Icelandic Spar, varieties of Quartz and Iolite, were stones known as the ‘Viking Compass,’ It was said that one could hold a thin slab towards the sky, serving as a glare-reducer which created a polarized filter to help navigate and locate the sun on cloudy days. This allowed these Nordic mariners to pinpoint their direction while out at sea.
